Maria Grazia Bellocchio completed her musical studies at Milan’s G. Verdi Conservatory with Chiaralberta Pastorelli, and went on to study at the Bern Hochschule with Karl Engel.
She regularly plays for the most important concert institutions both in Italy and abroad.
As a chamber musician, she has played with Salvatore Accardo, Rocco Filippini, Bruno Giuranna, Franco Petracchi.
In 2011, to mark celebrations for the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of Italian unification, she devised a project entitled “Journey around Italy – A new popular songbook – 20 popular songs transcribed by 20 composers”. The project was premiered at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, followed by other performances at the Mito Festival, Musica Insieme Bologna as well as in a number of other Italian cities.
Her repertoire ranges from Bach to young contemporary composers.
For some time now she has collaborated with Divertimento Ensemble (Abbiati price 2015) conducted by Sandro Gorli, which regularly takes part in key festivals; in 2012 it became part of the European Ulysses network bringing together thirteen of Europe’s main organisations for promoting and raising awareness of contemporary music.
She has recorded CDs for Ricordi and Stradivarius featuring works by Bruno Maderna, Sandro Gorli, Franco Donatoni, Stefano Gervasoni, Federico Gardella, Stefano Bulfon, Marco Momi, Claudio Ambrosini, Ivan Fedele and Gyorgy Kurtag.
She teaches piano at Bergamo’s “G. Donizetti” Conservatory. She regularly holds piano and chamber music masterclasses for a variety of Italian organisations.
In 2012, she created the Call for Young Performers project as part of IDEA, International Divertimento Ensemble Academy, with a monographic course dedicated to contemporary literature for piano. Over the years the project has covered works by K. Stockhausen, G. Kurtág, L. Berio, M. Kagel, G. Ligeti, S. Gervasoni and A. Solbiati.
